Very dry and very hot about sums it all up! I can't remember ever being soooo hot for soooo long! It just never let up. We suffered and so did the vegetables. Alot of crops took a real beating when it came to production and quality. Strawberries didn't put on very good, tomatoes wouldn't set fruit past 90 degrees, peppers lost their blooms, corn shriveled up , cabbages and cold crops bolted in the extreme temp., cucumbers turned bitter and melons were eaten by the deer. But the Lord was still faithful and prospered other crops to make up the losses.
It was our first year without our oldest children farming with us and proved challenging making all the adjustments. The Lord blessed us with our daughter-in-law continuing to stay with us and we wonder what we would do without her!??? Maybe you'll see more of her next year at markets?????

In the Full Swing of Summer

Wow has this summer been hot! We're so glad that after 5 weeks of roasting ourselves in the field, it finally cooled off for us. Boy are we enjoying the 80's instead of 100's. The field crops have taken a beating when it comes to burning up in the heat. The green beans, chard and beets were short lived due to the heat. We're looking forward to planting for the fall and enjoying these items again since we didn't really get our fill the first time. It seems everything has slowed down including us with the heat!
We're busy planting seedlings for the fall and they are looking great. We're getting ready to plant them in the field soon.
We're also trying at the same time to clean up the fields from crops that are finished. That means pulling dead plants, tilling and re-laying plastic and drip tape for the next crops.

Dog Days of Summer!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ii39M0SlRtY/Tf6IYrzF6iI/AAAAAAAAAM0/eaGgunSbpfk/s320/turkey%2Bpics%2B001.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5620079342660217378" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ynyDzWHdoiM/Tf6IYd1SNII/AAAAAAAAAMs/rVWqdDl0P-Y/s320/009.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5620079338911315074" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mZNmij-xr8s/Tf6IX_yP0_I/AAAAAAAAAMk/MIfxOhkeehw/s320/050.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5620079330845512690" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-0H5TxBg94EE/Tf6IXqUAluI/AAAAAAAAAMc/fzzOYJETmpc/s320/003.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5620079325081540322" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mbk1jZNx3PI/Tf6IXZLlCjI/AAAAAAAAAMU/pAZuBxE7Lm8/s320/002.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5620079320482777650" />
Talk about warm weather...Missouri is sure letting us have it this month. Not only hot but very humid as well. It's taking it's toll on those of us who are fighting the heat to get the vegetables picked. We're plugging away at it though because we know everyone still needs to eat!
The tomatoes are coming on strong and are beautiful and delicious! Yummy BLT's are the main course lately. We have planted heat tolerant lettuce as an experiment and so we'll see how well that works for us. We're excited about it nonetheless!
Blueberries and blackberries are getting ready to be picked, late-season strawberries are beginning to ripen and peaches are ripe and ready to eat! I love summer and all it's flavors!

Spring Has Sprung

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-PLJQ8u_GEQk/TdBZSqsqnFI/AAAAAAAAAMI/thqorLuDa9E/s320/veg%2Bpic%2560s%2B039.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607079713310415954" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hzUdb-1CThU/TdBZSZhJtxI/AAAAAAAAAMA/G8luy583El8/s320/veg%2Bpic%2560s%2B025.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607079708698720018" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8_2Ron84uZg/TdBZSOYxwKI/AAAAAAAAAL4/WI7tFws1kNA/s320/wedding%2Bpics%2B003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607079705710805154" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-r-izVlDcszo/TdBZR0tTNdI/AAAAAAAAALw/M6vQsrZdYVU/s320/wedding%2Bpics%2B001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607079698817562066" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i8cMmN8SawM/TdBZR-uIETI/AAAAAAAAALo/xAJbSYSld4U/s320/spring%2Bpics%2B003.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607079701505380658" />
We are quite busy around here on the farm lately. Spring weather also brings market season. Not only do we need to still get the weeding, planting, picking and succession planting done, we still need to get everything ready for markets! We've had 2 weddings this past winter therefore losing two very valuable members of the farm. Jeffrey married Lydia on December 4 and they now live not quite a mile down the road in a little farmhouse. Lydia works for us but Jeffrey works in a metal shop in Jamesport. Shayla married Jesse from Canada on Easter morning and she moved away after returning from their honeymoon.
We've been busy harvesting lots of vegetables and now strawberries are upon us. It's also bedding plant season and we're knee deep in those as well. If you need any plants for your garden, we'll we've probably got them. We tried out several different things like potato starts, green beans, snap peas, scallions, celery and strawberries. Snow, ice and terrible winds are predicted yet again. Just when things start looking nice and the sun comes out, snow is turning to slush, and temps. are rising, that's when it hits again. We just take one day at a time and try to make the right decisions about whether to go to market or not. Our safety and the safety of our customers is of the utmost importance.
What is new on the farm? Well we have a new addition to our farmyard. He doesn't do a lot of work, sleeps alot, makes a lot of whining, demands alot of attention and follows the boys everywhere outside. His name is Sherman and he's a Blue Heeler pup. On the farms you just have to keep a couple of good dogs around to deter the unwanted preditors. We've actually seen a cougar, bobcat and of course the normal racoons, deer and woodchucks. With all our chickens and baby chicks on the way, we try to keep the big animals at a distance.
Things are starting to grow in the greenhouses for spring already. Tomatoes, peppers, rosemary, lavender, flowers and eggplant are just a few. Hard to believe it's time for this already. We just keep telling ourselves that Spring is just around the corner, and it really is.
We are in the process of starting our very first website. We've never felt we needed it before but due to the increased phone calls, emails and letters, we have decided to post our information on the website for all to check. I'm not computer saavy so please be patient with us. It might take a while to finally get this up and running. I try to do a little on it every night, hoping to finish it in a couple of weeks! (sad huh?)

Just some pictures showing what's going on at the farm

<img style="display:block; We're going to undergo many changes this year. Jeffrey married Lydia on Dec. 4th and they have moved a mile down the road. At this time, we are unsure if Jeffrey will stay working on the farm. Whatever the decision, our blessings go with them.
Jesse and Sarai will be taking over some of our markets for Jeffrey and Lydia. Jesse did a really good job last year and Sarai adds the feminine touch to the stand! Selah (7) will be in real training. So far, she has had the job of restocking the stand during market. Now we're going to attempt to train her in the money department. Pray for us! :)
Right now, we are in the process of ordering seeds, pots, plants, soil, compost and manure. Busy time, planning crops and how much of each item to plant; estimated yields, pricing and labor to harvest.
Winter is also our time to travel to conferences to learn about organic growing of vegetables and flowers. It's also our time to sit up late with cups of coffee devouring seed catalougs, vegetable books and other ways to grow our crops! The day you stop learning is the day you die!
You'll have to forgive us for not updating this blog very much in the summer months. Markets keep up quite busy and not alot of spare time to do updating!

Winter is Here!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TM1xapKsH2I/AAAAAAAAAKI/29hp9zJaBVs/s320/mum+pics+005.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534204219649433442" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TM1xaSaYnyI/AAAAAAAAAKA/aNhqjfL_xyI/s320/new+tunnel+pic+004.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534204213541248802" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TM1xZwW66KI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/HMW9Px3ojYA/s320/fall+pics+032.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534204204399913122" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TM1xZlctvmI/AAAAAAAAAJw/6Osx45zv-ec/s320/fall+pics+028.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534204201471426146" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TM1xZQVpZ7I/AAAAAAAAAJo/pK4aNbrBttk/s320/4th+gh+002.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5534204195804637106" />
Markets are finally over and now we can have a long-awaited rest! They are kept at a constant temperature to produce heat-loving vegetables in the middle of winter. 2 of our greenhouses are cold houses where cold crops are grown. (lettuce, bok choy, spinach, carrots etc.) We are excited about the new boiler system and we're going to put it to the test this winter!
We will have a new addition to our family coming in December! Our oldest son, Jeffrey, is going to get married to Lydia Sellers. December we will gain a daughter and a new farm hand! We have several greenhouses and hoophouses that we will fill to the brim with veggies for the winter. Check out our Winter CSA information or stop by our stand and pick up a flier.
Sweet potatoes are being dug up, apples are picked, pumpkins brought in from the fields, squashes stored in bins, fields are being put to rest for the winter months, cover crops sown, and last minute repairs being done before winter. Wood is being cut and chopped for the cold winter nights ahead. No rest for the weary!
Looking forward to slowing down a little in the winter months.

Summer Time

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TENgfXrgO9I/AAAAAAAAAIw/U_6sXih3fl4/s320/tomatoberry+pics+001.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495342062370831314" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TENgetM29-I/AAAAAAAAAIo/_7SPUVh68V0/s320/watermelon+pics+019.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495342050968008674" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TENgeHOTI8I/AAAAAAAAAIg/t-ytaCxHIxA/s320/watermelon+pics+016.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495342040773501890" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TENgd9K4QvI/AAAAAAAAAIY/xUk_5TqIawY/s320/girl+pics+025.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495342038074802930" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/TENgdn7aYXI/AAAAAAAAAIQ/SpVr-4LlDtk/s320/girl+pics+039.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5495342032372785522" />
Sweating, Planting and Picking....
With the temperatures and humidity soaring, planting and picking are taking more time due to having to take several breaks to cool off. We are in the middle of planting the fall crops now, the work is never done! The chickens don't like the weather either, they aren't laying as well as they usually do. Several greenhouses that need to be built and plastic put on. Well, we just about got them both done now. We finally got the main structures done and got the plastic on. Now we are in the process of finishing the ends to warm up the tunnel to be able to plant. We're planting an early crop of tomatoes and bell peppers and hot peppers and eggplant in the tunnels that just got erected.
We've also been butchering lots of chickens! We've done 200 now! I think we have enough to sell through the summer for awhile. Just email us an order for some All-Natural, Hormone-Free, Range-Free chicken meat. $3.00 lb.
Our Nursery greenhouse is so overflowing! We have now put all the overflow into 2 other greenhouses. It is delaying the planting of those greenhouses but we have no other choice. Unfortunatly the weather has not cooperated and we have not been able to get crops in the fields. Hopefully we will be able to soon!
We are also busy running back and forth to KC for all the Farmer's Market meetings. We're very excited about all the new additions this year! We will be participating in the new Gladstone Farmer's Market as well as possibly starting up a new market in Kearney! That makes 7 markets for our family! Pray for us!
Thank you for all the customers who have been making this winter a success for us when coming down to KC every week to sell our produce. Sometimes it's pretty nasty weather and you all still come anyway!
If you look at the previous blog, I took some pictures of the high tunnels going up!

Providence Farms Under Construction

<img style="float:left; Even at night! That job falls on my husband, Gerry. The 4 boys are quite busy every day trying to keep up with the demand of wood. It seems those 300 gallon barrel stoves have an incredible appetite at night. Especially when it is below zero. These are the times that my girls and I are quite happy to be females! In our family, outside chores in the winter fall on the men to accomplish. The women folk stay inside where it is warm and make sure the men have hot meals to come in the house to eat.
We have taken some pictures so you can see our largest tunnel 28x200 without the plastic on and some of the other greenhouses that are being heated right now. We have alot of greens growing in them along with radishes, swiss chard and onions. Peppers, tomatoes, lots of herbs, leeks and salad mixes.
Gerry took some pictures of the cows so everyone can see the cows from which they get their milk and dairy products from. Daisy is the brown Jersey and Anna Belle is out in the pasture too. Little Maggie is one of our Holstien-Jersey heiffers that loves the attention of the little girls who still bottle feed her twice a day. There's never a dull moment at our farm. The men are busy trying to assemble a new 32x95 greenhouse in the MUD! The weather just doesn't want to cooperate with our schedule these days!
We're in the process of getting a website and working on Twitter and Facebook so be patient.

Planting Time Again

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/Svv-rBnsTpI/AAAAAAAAAGw/f_aRIU0vx8Q/s320/11-11-09_1628.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403192193083788946" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/Svv-q5J4-HI/AAAAAAAAAGo/QXL0tBNDvr8/s320/11-11-09_1627.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403192190811306098" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/Svv-qsGlWfI/AAAAAAAAAGg/Jb12dr1Jwy8/s320/11-11-09_1626.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403192187307776498" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/Svv-qW8J5zI/AAAAAAAAAGY/KkwwrIZ067E/s320/11-11-09_1625.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403192181626890034" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_lc4QapxcWOg/Svv-qeeWQJI/AAAAAAAAAGQ/bynFes1rWIg/s320/11-11-09_1624.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5403192183649353874" />
We are heading into winter and we're trying to finish planting our greenhouses with cold crops that will survive the temperatures here in Trenton, MO. Our son, Jeff has taken some pictures of what is growing nicely already. We have spinach, swiss chard, radishes, leeks, carrots, mache, arugula, mizuna, cress, (lots of salad mixes), kohlrabi, golden beets, tatsoi & broccoli. Enough anyway, to keep us busy along with the other field work that still needs to be done before snow flies!
We have done just a couple of our winter markets and are so thrilled there are so many of you out there who are willing to still come out on chilly days to get your fresh vegetables! Thank you so much!
Hopefully you are all getting the emails we send weekly noting what is available for that week. If you aren't, please email me and I will gladly try to fix it or add you to our list. You can email us at providencefarms@grundyec.net.
Alot of you are asking for our "sales associates" (the children) so we'll try to bring them occasionally to keep up their customer skills:)
If you decide to come visit us at one of our Winter Delivery Locations please feel free to do so. We always load up the van with lots of extra produce just in case. Here's where we are on Tuesdays only!

Crowleys Furniture Mart Parking Lot (Hwy. 152 & 291)
(same location as the farmers market originally was)
Boy, the season has really flown by this year. We are knee deep in pumpkins, squash and mums now! I thought lugging around watermelons and cantaloupe were heavy......needless to say I'm getting a workout! We have had a bumper crop of pumpkins this year, actually the best ever. We'll probaby be baking pumpkin till spring next year we grew so many. So we welcome any interesting recipes for pumpkins and squash from you all. We won't go hungry this winter, that's for sure. I'm throwing in a few pictures of the family picking pumpkins and us at a fall festival. We want to say a big "THANK YOU" to all of our customers this season and we so appreciate your business. We love what we do, but we couldn't do it without you all to buy our products. So many of you have become treasured friends and we will keep you in our prayers during the winter months and pray to see you again in the Spring. We are keeping a list of everyones email, name, or phone # so we can let you know when markets start again in the spring. I can't believe summer is almost coming to an end already. It seems that when you get so busy seasons just fly! Maybe that is just getting old too!!! We've been keeping very busy picking , picking and more picking. The Harvest is in great abundance and even though we are a family of 12, we can hardly keep up sometimes. Our fall crops are coming on very nicely. Pumpkins, mums, squash and lettuces are growing by the day. Around here in Trenton, we're getting enough rain that we should be able to grow the biggest pumpkin around! Next year we need to arrange better management of our zucchini picking. It seems the standard size this year has been "Baseball Bat" size, the amount of rain we've been getting doesn't help any either. I think they grow inches by the hour!
The children have been enjoying the summer months swimming and playing. It won't be long and they will be jumping in the piles of leaves. One day at a time Lisa!
I'm going to enter some pictures of the girls out in the fields. On my next entry I'll show you how the mums and stuff are doing.
We sure enjoy talking to all our customers who chat with us at the stand. We love hearing all the interesting ways the food we grow are being prepared. I've learned alot of neat recipes from lots of you and can't wait to try all of them.
Take care for now and stop by and say "Hi" to us at one of our markets!

Rain, Rain---Go Away!

Well, I think we've gotten enough rain to last awhile. I can't imagine how Noah must have felt! Even though we still have to pick--rain or shine---I'm getting tired of the muddy mud boots, muddy floors and wet clothes! I'm very thankful that horrible hailstorm only got us on the tailend of the storm and we only recieved pea sized hail, still the vegetables didn't care for it much.

The pumpkins and watermelon plants are doing quite well now. Getting very big with the moisture we've been having. We picked the first of our cut flowers to sell. Beautiful colored plume celosia and multi-colored zinnias. We'll be taking those to our BriarCliff Market tomorrow. The zucchini and yellow squash are coming on full-force too. We're now picking those daily to avoid the Baseball Bat Syndrome!

We'll keep you posted on any upcoming events! Kids Night at BriarCliff Village will be the 18th of June. It should be alot of fun. Come on out and bring the family.

Just a little tidbit of our children and who we are.

My oldest son Jeff and oldest daughter Shayla run a couple of our stands in Farmers Markets, you've probably met them. Couldn't do it without their help. My 2nd oldest son, Jesse, works the BriarCliff Market with us (17). All of our younger children come to one market or another to see where our produce is sold. Josiah (13), Jonah (11), Sarai (9), Salome (7), Selah (6), Shemaiah ( 4), and Shekinah (1) (she doesn't get to go to market because she doesn't like to sit still!) I'll include some pictures to let you see a few of them.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343293525800189954" style="FLOAT: left; It seems that we can hardly get everything picked in a full day. We have lots of help but there's an endless amount of work that needs to be done besides the picking. I'm going to enclose some pictures of the farm and what actually goes on here. We have our fun days too, not all work! We are really hitting the markets hard with all the fresh greens you could possibly want. The tomatoes in the greenhouses are doing well for us as well. We tried alot of new vegetables this year and we're quite happy with the result of them all except one---dwarf pak choi. We'll do the regular size one next year! Hope to see you all at the market soon!

Picking, Picking and more Picking!

The days are starting early for most of us around here now. We have to get up quite early to get the spinach picked and washed before it wilts. Also, the cows need to get milked before our second oldest son, Jesse, can get to the fields to get done what needs done. We are picking daily, radishes, spinach, collard greens, heirloom lettuces and tomatoes out of the greenhouse. The tomatoes are finally ripening, Yeah! All those long winter months of keeping them warm is finally paying off. The strawberries are just about ripe and then that will be added to our list as well. The greenhouse was pretty much cleaned out from what was sold as bedding plants and others that were moved to our cold frame. Now it is overfull with pumpkins, winter squash and gourds flats germinating to be planted in 2 weeks. Never a dull moment! Hope you are all enjoying this cool and WET spring. See ya at the markets!

Spring is in the Air!

Here on the farm it is the busiest time of the year. Everyone is coming and going every which way. One group is planting in the fields, another is discing, tilling and laying plastic and the other group is starting more seeds in the nursery greenhouse. We all work good as a complete team (family) when planting season really hits hard. We've been very fortunate about getting our vegetables out inbetween rains since we use plasticulture. Therefore, we have already been harvesting beautiful heads of lettuce. Collard greens, radishes, and pak choi are also being picked often. Markets are here and we are really having fun this year. My two oldest children, Jeff-21 and Shayla-19 have been doing a couple of markets for us. That sure lightens our load from having to leave home so often. God Bless them for it! We have also ventured out in our home town doing Providence Farms Prepaid Produce Packages. It has taken off quite well. We'll see how the next month of sign up time goes though. I've learned not to count my chickens before they hatch! If you see us at the markets just let us know if you have looked at this blog. There will be pictures on here in a week or so. I'm working on it, among other things!

What's Up With The Weather?

Well, all the vegetables in the field were doing exceptionally well until....the April 5 & 6th freeze. We're hoping they will pull through and still be alright. We were busy all day on Saturday the 4th putting up row cover to protect as much as we could. It just goes to show you....God is still in control. I think He likes to keep us humble! No problem there!!!! The tomatoes and bedding plants are doing great and we're gearing up for the first market on Thurs. the 30th at BriarCliff Village. The men of the family have been chopping wood for the last of these freezes to keep the greenhouses warm and preparing the fields in between drenching rains. We're also constantly doing erosion repair, not by choice though. The children are getting antsy and are ready for nice weather to go play in. It seems they keep getting teased with warm then cold all the time. It will be here before we know it though.
